Brewed with Challenger, Centennial and Saaz hops with Lager and Crystal Malts. Launched in July 2013, this is part of Shepherd Neame’s Whitstable Bay Collection, named after the Kent coast fishing village of Whitstable, the brewery’s Faversham Steam Brewery alter ego.
The Faversham Steam Brewery name was originally used by Shepherd Neame in the 18th century when it became one of the first breweries outside of London to be steam-powered with a five-horse power Boulton and Watt engine.
Sampled on 02/07/2015
(sample best before end Dec/15) Clear, pale golden amber with a quickly diminishing white head.
Sweetcorn and straw with honeysuckle blossom and faint lemon zest.
More hops than the nose might suggest with mild piney bitterness adding bite to a clean, light-bodied palate with crusty white baguette and lemony notes.
Buttery white baguette with very mild hop bitterness and mild lingering lemon.
Brewed by Shepherd Neame this blonde is stereo-typically dumb, being presented in a clear bottle. However, while a tad on the bland side it is clean with crusty white baguette, lemon and mild piney bitterness. The clear bottle stops us awarding a 'recommended' score.
