Bols started making maraschino liqueur around 1830 by distilling the whole cherry resulting in the typical Marasquin flavour. In the 19th century Bols produced two variants of Maraschino: one called Maresquino and the other Crème de Cerises – both were distilled, clear-coloured liqueurs.

Today, Bols Maraschino liqueur is made using a high quality cherry distillate together with fresh cherry juice, some rose oil and other secret ingredients.
