Domus Grappa is distilled from 100% Ruché DOCG grape pomace, a rare red varietal grown in the hills of the seven villages around Castagnole Monferrato, Piedmont in north-west Italy.

This limited edition (500 bottles), artisanal grappa is the first of a premium brand created by Massimiliano Favaretto, Bar Manager at London’s El Nivel. Domus means home, which Massimiliano says "it so it's because the smell of grappa reminds of my home when I was a kid back in Italy."

The label was designed by Agnieszka Szypicyn, Massimiliano's girlfriend and founder of inesdesignes.com.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 16/10/2015

Appearance:

(sample batch No.1, 156 of 500 bottles, 2014) Crystal clear with slow moving fat tears.

Aroma:

Nutty and oily with brown bready aromas. White peach, aloe vera and very faint rose blossom and lemon zest.

Taste:

Oily mouthfeel with faint sweetness. Brown bread and roasted almond and light milk chocolate. Very faint rose water.

Aftertaste:

Long nutty and bready finish with faint rose water.

Overall:

Oily mouthfeel with brown bread and roasted almond. This superb varietal grappa brilliantly conveys the subtle rose character of the rare Ruché grape.
