Thomas Dakin Gin is distilled with 11 botanicals, including juniper, orange peel, English coriander seeds, grapefruit peel, angelica, cubeb pepper, liquorice root, and red cole (a type of horseradish).

Named after Thomas Dakin, who in 1760 built his gin distillery on Bridge Street in Warrington, establishing what is today's G&J Distillers, the makers of this gin.

Thomas Dakin Gin is presented in a distinctive square bottle inspired by 18th century bottle designs with heavily embossed back and sides, while a red label with raised vintage letterpress-style label typography almost entirely covers the front.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 13/09/2015

Appearance:

(sample bottle batch 01/15) Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Pungent musky, nutty, damp wood notes (angelica root perhaps), hop-like freshly chopped celery (suspect angelica seeds) and coriander with underlying piney juniper and orange zest.

Taste:

Bone dry with generous coriander and assertive peppery and hot horseradish spice. Notes of green apple and crisp not quite ripe pear.

Aftertaste:

Very long finish.

Overall:

Very dry and intensely flavoured with assertive peppery spice and heat. Almost a spiced gin.
