Pronounced ‘Freeze’, this vodkas name comes from the Danish word meaning ‘frost and ice’, a reference to its production method. It is distilled from wheat grain using a six column distillation process and a freeze distillation process said to be unique to Frïs.
This patented freeze distillation process is applied in the second column, named the ‘Lutter Column’. Here very low temperatures are used to freeze unwanted fusel oil impurities into a solid mass and so remove them from the alcohol which remains liquid. After passing through a further four distillation columns, the finished spirit is hydrated with softened water drawn from artesian wells in Northern Jutland. Finally this vodka is infused with minerals before filtration.
Frïs was pulled from the market at the end of the 199os but re-launched in the USA by Pernod Ricard in September 2012, along with two new flavoured variants: Orange Freeze and Citrus Freeze, both with a lower strength of 35% alc./vol.
