The distillers this single pot still Irish whisky refers to are Barry Crockett and Brian Nation. Released September 2013, the limited edition of 500 bottles celebrates Brian taking over from Barry as Master Distiller at Midleton and the event held to mark the commissioning of the new distillery.
Brain took over after a ten years of mentoring by Barry who then retired after three decades as Master Distiller and 47 years of service at Midleton. The handover coincided with the completion of a large expansion at the distillery more than doubling the capacity with a new brew hall, pot still hall and new column stills. An event, ‘‘The House Warming”, was held at the distillery for 500 guests, concluding with a dinner for 350 in the last of the 42 aging warehouses to be built on the site.
Fittingly Midleton Master Distillers’ Selection is a blend of Midleton’s old and new style pot still whiskeys drawn from numerous casks, mostly in first-fill ex-bourbon casks aged 10-12 years. Bottled without chill filtration.

(bottle 406 of 500) Clear, golden amber.
Fruity nubuck leather, dried apricot and apricot jam with cherry, vanilla and cedar wood. Water releases notes of red apple.
Wonderfully sweet and fruity with apricot jam, blackcurrant, plum and generous vanilla, garnished with just enough spicy oak to maintain balance. A splash of water amplifies peppery spice more than the fruit so best served neat – why dilute a couple of craftsman’s finest work?
Long, lingering cherry, apricot and vanilla. This exceptionally fruity whisky is perfectly balanced just as it pours from the bottle, just as its masters intended.
