Little Oban Bay is blended using Oban whisky matured in three different cask types: refill casks with new ends, European sherry seasoned oak, predominantly American oak refill hogsheads. The blend is then married in small relatively inactive American oak casks.

Incidentally, Oban is Gaelic for Little Bay, hence the name of this malt.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 22/02/2015

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Toasty biscuit, citrus and vanilla with linseed oiled chamois leather and lavender. Water releases dried apricot, mango and orange zest.

Brown bread crust, richly fruity malt loaf, clove and cinnamon spice with zesty orange, crushed mint and lavender. Water amplifies fruitiness with current and sultana malt loaf, tropical fruit and orange zest.

Aftertaste:

Clove, black pepper and cinnamon spice with brown bread (particularly with water) and green apple.
