Review and Tasting

Sampled on 13/04/2016

Appearance:

Clear, deep coppery amber.

Aroma:

Biscuity chamois leather, vanilla, vinous fruit, cinnamon and faint crystallised ginger. Pleasing herbal notes emerge with water.

Taste:

Toasted sweet barley, vanilla, dry oak, new leather, praline chocolate and vinous orchard fruit with ginger and cinnamon spice. Faint saltiness and smoky notes emerge with water (which this malt takes well).

Aftertaste:

Port-like wine finish with lightly spiced oak.

Overall:

This sub-10 year old malt does have some youthful exuberance but generous fruit, vanilla and sweet barley adds richness and balance to produce a perhaps somewhat brash but pleasing malt.
