Jameson Shot-Tails

Welcome to the world of Shot-Tails: Jameson's range of deconstructed cocktail serves separates out the spirit from each drink's other ingredients and presents the combination in two shot glasses.

At one level Shot-Tails are a rebellion from cocktail culture - arguably a more blue-collar style of consumption - allowing drinkers to appreciate the spirit in its unadulterated form. At another the collection reflects a trend to deconstruct food and drink and re-imagine the way the constituent parts can be presented - they represent a nod to the work of experimental chefs such as Heston Blumenthal. The concept is being rolled out internationally, based around six core serves designed to reflect aspects of the whiskey's taste profile. Jameson is hoping bartenders embrace the idea and create their own twin-serve shots.

The whiskey is served at room temperature, while the other ingredients are shaken up as normal with ice, then strained. Shot-Tails are designed to be sipped - responsible drinking dictates shots should not be shot - with Jameson keen that drinkers sip the whiskey first before alternating between the two glasses. Garnishes on some of the serves discourage shooting too.

Ed McAvoy, Jameson's UK brand ambassador, said the range has been trialled at events and that they have gone down a storm. "Shot-Tails are a fun, engaging and approachable way of drinking whiskey. They preserve the purity of the spirit, but are still aligned to the values of cocktail culture - a drink only tastes as good as the ingredients you put in it so there's no excuse to cut corners.

"Hopefully the bar community can take these initial serves, then create their own interpretations and help cement Shot-Tails as a new drinking style."
