Review

A London boozer that's had the insides stripped out but not the soul (though the previous incarnation, Uncle Sam's, was not actually a traditional pub). A popular destination on the Dalston circuit, and known for its regular jazz performances, it's completely without pretension.

The site's made up of a single, large, open plan room on the ground floor (a first floor room for special events) and a decent-sized outdoor terrace for a smoke. A younger, modish clientele keeps things fresh and the lively atmosphere's present whether it's quiet or heaving (which it does get on weekends). In terms of what to drink it's the usual pub offering, with a few local brews on taps, and it's all good value. No surprises, but sometimes you just need to kick back, relax and take in the atmosphere.
