Review

Located in an imposing hotel that backs on to Tiergarten, the city's main park, Das Stue is perhaps the one place in Berlin, a notoriously relaxed social scene, where dressing up is required. Showing an obviously eclectic taste in art, the hotel's lobby, which flows through to the bar, is filled with glass cases displaying curious wooden animal carvings, shoes.

The bar itself moves away from this hunting lodge-style, embracing its glass walls and open courtyard with a simple, uncluttered theme. The art continues however, with two wire sculptured monkeys ready to greet guests. Low-slung lounge chairs are scattered throughout the room which is dominated by a dark island bar while outside in the courtyard the style is more festive with colourful plastic chairs and umbrellas.

An extensive cocktail menu is on offer, with gems of geeky cocktail information scattered throughout the history of drinks. Plenty of the drinks are long and refreshing, perfect for the park location, but there are short, sharp and strong ones too and a raft of classics. Everything is well-balanced and delicious.
