Review

Bartender and Bar Manager Matt Grippo's love and appreciation of spirits is evident on the back bar of Blackbird with shelves under an intricately carved oak mantle groaning under the weight of an impressively large selection of spirits and liqueurs.

Wooden planks on the walls and ceiling soften the long narrow space with works from local artists, all of which are for sale, dotting the wall above blood red banquette seating opposite the long expanse of bar counter. Far beyond, behind wrought iron work, sits the green baize of the pool table. The overall feel is West Coast eclectic with a Castro mix of gay guy and straight couples.

The menu offers up an appealing choice of cocktails (try the Prospect Park), wine and beer with nine to choose from on draught.
