Review

The first thing you notice about this bar is the wall of old bank safes with keys sticking out of some of the locks – apparently you can still rent one.

The hotel used to be an old bank, but since it reopened in November 2009, it is concreting its status as a world class hotel, with a world class bar. There’s still a certain formality about the space - sleek, black bar counter, black leather chairs and soft lighting in the bar which overlooks the vast hotel atrium.

The cocktail menu demonstrates the exceedingly high quality of the bar – even the gin and tonic section at the back gives a selection of twelve different and often unusual gins. Throughout the rest of the menu, the cocktails have two different prices – one for a standard spirit, and another for a premium spirit.

If you’re after a quaint, authentic Barcelonan experience, then this mightn’t be the best place for you, but if you are after sophistication, luxury, and immaculately mixed cocktails, then the Mandarin Oriental Hotel is a must.
