Review

Stagger Lee is often described as being themed after a Wild West saloon, but forget about gun slingers and glasses of rough whiskey being slid along a rustic bar. This particular saloon is more upmarket – think gold rush speculator rather than cattle rustler.

Shaded wall lights and chandeliers bolstered by flickering candles struggle to illuminate a room filled with heavy, dark wooden furnishings and hung with striped floral wallpaper. A piano and the antique cash till, which sits on the corner of the counter and greets you as you walk in, contribute to Stagger Lee’s theatrical feel; as do the bartenders who play out their own characters in this real-life play.

Classic cocktails sit alongside some highly creative modern serves, with the house cocktail, the Continental Sour, being a simple but satisfying whiskey sour with a port wine float. In keeping with that Western theme, you’ll also find an impressive bourbon selection.
