Review

The Dorchester sits majestically on Park Lane, oozing elegance, decorum and staid tradition. So its bar may come as something of a shock to older regulars.

The Dorchester is owned by the Brunei Investment Agency and oil money has bought plenty of bling. The original restrained, classical bar was long obliterated and replaced with nightclub style ostentation, while the pianist has given way to a DJ. Some 750 scarlet glass spikes form the backdrop to a room lined with high back booth seating and plenty of bronzed glass.

Fortunately tradition survives in the drinks offering. One of the oldest cocktails of all, the Martinez, heads up a classic cocktail list and uses old tom gin especially distilled for the bar.

Impeccable, traditional service standards endure and ensure this bar remains one of London's best.
