Review

Design features in this achingly cool bar include a wooden board covered with regimented squashed Coca Cola cans, a curvy ceiling line which tracks the contours of the bar counter below. Edgy artwork is interspersed along a bare brick wall which stretches back to the far depths of this large bar.

Christian Schenk is one of the talented young barchefs who stand tall behind the very high counter of the bar. He may be young, and the décor extremely contemporary, but you'll find his, and indeed this bar's cocktail style, as being reassuringly classic. Not that you might think that by reading the menu, with slightly weird descriptions accompanying each drink - the White Lady is described as "the wolf in a wedding dress" while Liquid Cocaine (basically a vodka espresso) is matched with "it's dark, then light, dark, light, dark, Monday".

Christian and his colleagues share the bar with some very able DJs, complete with turntables and vinyl. Beyond the bar the loungey space features table football and stylish furnishings, which incidentally were built and upholstered by the bar-staff. On clement evenings curb-side chairs and tables make Booze Bar café-like.
