Review

Occupying what was formally a Russian restaurant, The Finnieston opened in September 2011 amid tough competition for discerning drinkers in the immediate area. However, this may be the new kid on the block but the bartenders are experienced hands and the owners are the folk behind the successful nearby Lebowskis.

The low ceilinged interior is a mismatch of stone walls, wood panelling, wooden floor and booth seating separated by stained glass panels. This homely environment with its excellent drinks and food is proving a hit with locals of all walks and ages.

The Finnieston specialises in gin and absinthe and other botanical spirits but this cute, old-worldy restaurant and bar offers nine beers and ciders on draught, a considered wine selection, not to mention some cracking cocktails served with hand-carved and column ice. Be sure to try the Rangoon Daisy.

The food menu is seafood-led with oysters and pan-fried scallops to fishermans pie, Gressingham duck, and whole Rabbit Saddle.
