Review

This gargantuan ground floor bar and kitchen covers nearly 7,000 square foot and has a capacity of 650. As the suited and booted city folk spill out of the nearby skyscrapers (the HSBC tower is opposite), so this place fills up, often to the point of spilling over to the outside terrace.

Long communal high tables enable traders to perch while they discuss the day's dealing over a drink. The raw industrial feel of the room is softened by white shaded lamps, reclaimed pine flooring, oak and a Japanese screen-style back bar.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Parlour does not just pack them, pile it high and sell it expensive - it boasts a cocktail menu which in our experience offers relatively reasonably priced well-made drinks - when I say relatively, remember where this is and who drinks here. The international wine list and beer offering is also not half bad with Meantime Helles beer on draught and some 40 wines available by the glass.

An all-day breakfast to dinner menu sources ingredients from Neal's Yard, Allen's of Mayfair and bread from Borough Market's Flour Station.
