Review

This good-time bar is named after the fruit that flourishes in South America and New Zealand, and indeed the fruit crops up in some of the cocktails served here.

Feijoa is also where many bartenders from neighbouring bars hang out before and after their shifts - always a good sign - and while the short cocktail menu may cater for those that who like their cocktails sweet, fruity, creamy, or all three, the bartenders here know their onions and are happiest working off piste, particularly making classics. As the menu now says, the Blood and Sand with an Ardbeg float "is probably the best I have ever had."

Occupying a prominent corner site on the 'straight' side of Reguliersdwarsstraat, a street in Amsterdam noted for its gay bars, the clientele here vary from fun seeking young professionals to students. Indeed, the open door of this unpretentious place welcomes all.

Feijoa's bartenders make some impressive cocktails and they have a good selection of spirits and liqueurs to work with, all displayed on glass and chromed metal shelving that towers high towards the double height ceiling forcing the bartenders to use a ladder to retrieve lofty bottles.
