Review

Part of the Young's Brewery group, The Alma has occupied this site since 1866 though has recently had the latest in a long line of renovations and has been reborn as a pub with 23 rooms. Downstairs is divided into a huge, one-room saloon bar with beer and wine served from behind a monumental island bar.

Being part of the Young's group you can expect a variety of own-brand brews as part of the 10 or so on draught (though there's nothing jaw-droppingly unique or off-the-wall about the selection), as well as guest ales from the Sambrook's Brewery and Twickenham Ale too. A short list of cocktails is displayed on its website, but nothing in the venue on a busy weekend suggested they were at all set up to make a decent mixed drink and we didn't try - if you're looking for a great pub atmosphere The Alma doesn't disappoint. A separate, more formal seated restaurant is out back.
