Review

The craft cocktail scene in Los Angeles continues to expand from its downtown origins to areas like Culver City, arguably better known for its thriving art gallery scene than its bar programmes. The Corner Door, as its name suggests, is an unassuming neighborhood bar and restaurant located on a quiet block of Washington Boulevard. It opened in June 2012, and on most nights the casual, intimate space is filled with a lively mix of locals and an after-work crowd that keeps coming back for signature twists on classic cocktails from brilliantly named bartender Beau du Bois.

The seasonal drinks are divided into Shaken and Stirred, the latter including a Negroni riff called the King's Assassin: Citadelle French gin, Dolin Blanc, Salers Gentiane Aperitif, Cocchi Americano and Cointreau. Chef Luke Reyes offers a straightforward yet sophisticated menu that includes roasted brussels sprouts and cider-glazed chicken wings. No-nonsense dishes like the TCD Burger and the marinated hanger steak are among the more popular mains.
