This neighbourhood cocktail bar, just off Bermondsey Street, is tucked away in the Victorian basement of No.8 Holyrood Street, a small cobbled street with railway arches lining the opposite side. In the summer, this street becomes one of the few afresco spaces to enjoy the summer in Bermondsey.
Nine Lives is known for its combination of cocktails and tacos, in what's described as "an exploration of the relationship between Mexican food and contemporary cocktail culture." The kitchen is headed by Guadalajara-born chef Ramon 'El Tigre' Ramos, with tacos forming the backbone of the food offering alongside the bar's cocktail programme and its confidently billed "London's Best Margaritas".
Music is another significant part of the Nine Lives identity. Early week evenings are soundtrack-driven, while Thursdays through Saturdays bring DJs playing disco, funk, boogie and vintage soul through the venue's custom-built quadraphonic sound system.
Sustainability has also been embedded in the concept since its launch. The Nine Lives name refers to the idea of giving things another life – minimising waste and making considered choices about what is sourced, saved and reused.
In August 2026, bartender Sergio Leanza, one of the original 2017 opening team, returned to Nine Lives as General Manager, having in the meantime established his own independent venues, Funkidory and Mama Funki.
