Built in 1827 on the site of an old Spanish armoury, 'two-jacks' is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans and houses an equally venerable bar. It was opened in 1856 by Guillaume Tujague who set sail from Bordeaux, France, in 1852. Sometime before Guillaume died in 1912, he sold the restaurant to Philibert Guichet, an accomplished bartender who won second prize in a prestigious New York cocktail competition for his Grasshopper cocktail.

Today the 'stand up' saloon bar is still graced by the pre-Prohibition long cypress bar counter, old mosaic floor and splendid mirrored back bar - this was already ninety years old when it left its Parisian bistro home in the 1856. Over some twenty years the present owner, Steven Latter, has covered the walls with cabinets of miniature bottles, photos, clippings and other memorabilia relating to the history of Tujague's.

Come here and soak up history, the atmosphere and a milky-minty Grasshopper, amid a friendly bunch of locals and tourists. If your lucky your bartender will be the fabulous Paul Gustings. (Look for a gentlemen that looks a bit like Colonel Sanders). Be sure to try his Ramos Gin Fizz.
