Review

Close to the Bastille Place, Maria Loca allows you to travel across the Atlantic, to Mexico City or Bueno Aires, on an exotic trip. Designed to look like a hacienda, this cosy place is decorated with plenty of plants and paintings of young artists. All the bottles are stored behind the bar in wooden crates by types of spirit. Maria Loca is the ideal place for a quiet evening with a couple of friends and a good drink.

Its co-owner Michael Landard and his associates met together in London before opening this cocktail bar. Michael is a true globetrotter: he travelled to South America, Germany, United Kingdom and Australia. And this shows in the Maria Loca's atmosphere. You can really feel the energy and the travellers' spirit here. Especially on the spirits' menu: a lot of the alcohols are made of sugarcane, rums (HSE, Botran, Appleton, New Grove, Chairman's Reserve...) and cachaça (Leblon, Magnifica Cachaça...). Michael won the French Diplomatico Competition in 2013 and tells guests about his visit to the Diplomatico Distillery and the story of each brand he has in his bar. He loves working with spices (he's currently working on his own spicy rum) and twists others alcohols (mezcal, bourbon, Potocki Courland Cumin...) with his housemade products such as falernum, hibiscus shrub, tamarin purée... Interesting flavours!

Maria Loca's exotic spirit expands to the kitchen, with dishes such as pao de queijo or fish accras. They work very well with the drinks.
