About
Named in honour of Alfred Heineken, the beer magnate, and 'Freddie' to his friends, who was apparently a regular here. The bar sits in De L'Europe, which Freddy purchased in the 1950s as a gift for his wife, Lucille Cummins, and his will stipulates that the hotel must always remain in the ownership of the Heineken family.
This historic hotel bar reopened in August 2011 after a refurbishment. The result is a classic luxurious hotel bar with panelled walls, black décor, leather banquettes and concentric circles of pink-orange glowing above. Copper chain curtains obscure the canal outside, which laps at this bar's footings.
International hotel guests relax while business types talk deals, sitting on comfy bar stools, looked after by the very hospitable team.
