A British upscale cafe with a Danish aesthetic, Jones & Sons has taken over a former industrial space (a Victorian textiles factory) and now boasts white walls, concrete walls, salvaged light fittings and a marble-topped, oak-clad bar. With just the right balance between minimalism and warmth this clearly has a more sophisticated drinker and diner in mind than some of the more 'edgy' venues that Dalston has earned its reputation on and suggests that the inevitable gentrification of the area has begun: here they care about what they serve.
That means that alongside über-local brews from Beavertown, Meantime and The Kernel, coffee from Monmouth and meat from a butcher who probably knows the names of the cows he's just slaughtered, there's a short cocktail list that covers staunch classics (Sazerac, Old Fashioned), modern classics (Espresso Martini, a house Elderflower Fizz) and seasonal variations (a grapefruit and rosemary gin sour and an orange and cinnamon Margarita) with aplomb - well-balanced and well-presented drinks.
