A longstanding veteran of the tourist-fuelled mayhem around Clarke Quay, Brewerkz does what it says on the tin: it brews, and it works.
The expansive space feels like a pub crossed with a beer hall, complete with pool tables. Fan-cooled outside seating offers views of the Singapore River. The menu offers cocktails, wine and food in addition to its core.
But what this place is all about is the beer: not only the microbrewery that lurks in the corner, but a menu of 40-ish international bottled brews, and a weekly changing cask ale selection. Brewerkz' Canadian master brewer produces twelve beers, all available for takeaway, in an enticing range of styles. $13 buys you a pick-your-own sampler.
After chatting with their knowledgeable staff, we went for a Black Rabbit, a chunky, Dunkel-style dark wheat beer, a Red Scholar, made with Thai sticky rice, a fruity Honey Apricot Ale, and their easy-going Golden Ale.
All were eminently quaffable, and as a place to expand your beer horizons, Brewerkz comes highly recommended.
