From the Caribbean’s ‘spice island’, little is known about this rum other than it was distilled in 1998 and originally aged in Grenada before being shipped to France for a second maturation period in ex-cognac casks.

Cognac Ferraud has long established relationships with some of the Caribbean’s best distilleries due to selling them used cognac casks for ageing rum. Thus Alexandre Gabriel, owner of Cognac Ferrand has over the years sampled many exceptional casks of rum and this led him to start buying the best examples and shipping them back to his cellars in Cognac.

These rums have been aged in their Caribbean distilleries in hot and humid conditions, generally in American ex-whisky casks. After being shipped to Cognac Ferraud’s Château de Bonbonnet the rums are transferred into casks previously used to age cognac and left in Cognac Ferraud’s cool cellars for several months to two years. The result is a range of ‘Plantation’ branded rums from around the Caribbean.

Clear, golden amber appearance.

Oaky vanilla with jasmine tea and faint pine smoke aromas.

Palate starts sweet, turns bitter and finishes sweet again. A rollercoaster ride with dried pineapple, vanilla, burnt cider-like flavours, cinnamon spice and Grenada’s signature nutmeg.

Caramel stewed apple and spice.
