A medium rich madeira is made from a blend of wines with an average age of 10 years, maturation in seasoned oak casks in the traditional 'Canteiro' system. After ageing, the madeira is fined before bottling, so there is no need to decant.
Released in 2024, Blandy's new edition 10-year-old range was created by award-winning winemaker, Francisco Albuquerque, and is made using traditional techniques combined with detailed knowledge on how each varietal evolves in the company's 12 different ageing rooms in two very different locations – The Blandy's Wine Lodge in Funchal and the Winery in Caniçal. The wines for this range are aged in very specific locations to benefit from the optimal conditions for each varietal.
Made with bual grapes predominantly from the south coast of the island of Madeira between Ribeira Brava and Calheta. The hand-picked grapes undergo pellicular maceration followed a 4-6 day of fermentation with natural yeast at temperatures between 18°C - 21°C in temperature-controlled tanks. Fortification arrests fermentation at the desired degree of sweetness.
Serve chilled, as an after-dinner drink, or with desserts, pâtès, cakes, or crème brûlée.
