As the name implies, Five Vodka has been distilled using a five-column still. This highly rectified 100 per cent wheat grain neutral spirit is then blended with a small amount of barley 'new make' spirit which has been distilled in Penderyn's pot whisky still.

The blend is hydrated to bottling strength using water sourced from the Beacons National Park. Five vodka is bottled without charcoal-filtration.

When Five Vodka was first launched in 2007 a television advertisement for the brand sparked complaints over its negative portrayal of Welsh people - it was bloody funny though. In the Autumn of 2011, new packaging saw the previously clear bottle replaced by a contemporary matt black spay finished bottle with very subtle branding.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 06/12/2010

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Burnt toast/burnt fruit cake with slight creaminess and cracked black pepper prickle.

Taste:

This far from neutral vodka has character and almost creamy mouthfeel with well-done toast, short crust pasty and cracked black bite.

Aftertaste:

Spicy finish with fennel.
