Jameson Signature Reserve (a travel retail exclusive) celebrates the fact that long before distillers began bottling their own whiskey, Jameson supplied labels bearing the John Jameson & Son signature to accompany every delivery of casks to the whiskey bonders who then bottled the whiskey.
Signature Reserve has a high pot still content and is aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish oak casks seasoned with oloroso sherry. The component whiskies used are pretty similar to those used in standard Jameson but the balance is completely different with a larger proportion of the pot still whiskey used, which at the distillery carries the code MMP, aged in sherry butts.
Sampled on 30/12/2010
Clear, golden amber with burnished copper edges.
A burst of waxy tropical fruit is a surprising note to the nose which also has more expected linseed oil and red skin apple aromas.
Apply notes are also very apparent on the light, honey sweet, fruity palate with cedar wood, creamy vanilla, dried fruit and delicate spice flavours.
Sweet apple continues through the light waxy finish.
