Originally called 'Bushmills Liqueur Whiskey', customers have always referred to this blended whiskey as Black Bush. It is produced at The Old Bushmills distillery, which disputes the title of the world's oldest licensed whisky distillery with Locke's.

A business on the Bushmill's site was indeed granted a licence to distil whiskey in 1608, but the present operation did not start until 1784, whereas Locke's was built and started operations in 1757.

Black Bush is triple distilled from unpeated and malted barley, then blended with a single grain Irish whiskey. The blend contains 80% Bushmills malt whiskey, aged for up to 18 years in old Olorosso Sherry casks.
