First blended in 1976, Extra Viejo (extra old) is a blend of Dominican rums aged in ex-American standard whiskey barrels for three to eight years. The bottle is distinguished by being covered with Brugal’s signature netting. (This rum is called 'Brugal Extra Viejo Reserva' in some markets.)
Brugal XV was replaced by Brugal Extra Viejo in May 2013. The alcoholic strength remains the same, but the ageing process changed with XV being aged in a mix of white American oak and red European oak casks.
