In its native Sweden punch is inextricably connected to Karlshamn, a small port in southern Sweden the name of which literally translates as 'Karl's Harbour'. The manufacture of punch was one of the town's key industries and was owned by the town's politicians and aristocrats.

Lars Olsson Smith of Absolut Vodka fame bought the C.G. Berg factory in 1876 and launched the 'Carlshamns Flaggpunsch' brand in 1885. Like Absolut, Carlshamns Flaggpunsch is now made by V&S Vin & Sprit. While Carlshamns Flaggpunsch is no longer made in the town, Karlshamn does boast its own Swedish Punsch museum with exhibits from one of the two large factories which manufactured punsch there in the 1800s.

Carlshamns Flaggpunsch is available a newer dry (Torr) formulation which is not as sweet as the 'Original'.

Appearance:

Clear, pale golden.

Aroma:

Pungent and spicy with fruit esters, dried pineapple and cinnamon.

Taste:

Rich and syrupy sweet but balanced by spicy fruity estery rum notes - hard to believe this is a mere 26% alc./vol..

Aftertaste:

Lingering cinnamon spice and fruity esters.

Overall:

Pungent and full-flavoured - sweet, spicy and fruity. Spice and fruity estery rum notes balance rich syrupy honeyed sweetness.
