Single de Samalens is made from the juice of a single variety of grape: Ugni Blanc but considering the name, confusingly is double distilled. The grapes used by Maison Samalens come exclusively from Bas Armagnac (mostly from the grand Bas Armagnac), on the border between the Gers and Landes.

Review and Tasting

Sampled before 1st May 2011

Appearance:

Clear, rose-gold and virgin olive oil appearance.

Aroma:

Linseed oil jumps off the nose with aromas of vanilla, caramel sugar, sherry, baked apple, date and pump yellow raisons, somewhat akin to bread and butter pudding.

Taste:

Velvet mouth feel to the slightly biscuit dry palate with notes of liquorice, grape and light white pepper spice.

Aftertaste:

Lingering grapey finish balanced by dry oak.
