Released in January 2012, Artein is the third in Glenmorangie's Private Edition range, Glenmorangie Artein comprises 15- and 21-year-old malts (in the ratio of 2:1) aged in ex-bourbon casks and then finished for an unspecified period in 'Super Tuscan' wine casks.

Artein, which apparently means 'stone' in Scots Gaelic is a reference to the Hilton of Cadboll Stone which stands close to the distillery and has been used as a motif for Glenmorangie.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 14/01/2012

Appearance:

Clear, copper amber with golden highlights.

Aroma:

Honeysuckle flowers and bush with fruity aromas of a punnet of ripe strawberries and below decks of an old wooden boat.

Taste:

Fruity (prunes and tinned peaches) palate with well-judged subtly spiced oak structure and mellowing linseed oil.

Aftertaste:

Peachy fruit lingers on the long finish which fades with mocha coffee.
