As the name suggests, Hudson Four Grain bourbon uses a mash bill of corn, rye, wheat and malted barley. It is made in batches of 800 pounds of grain which is ground, cooked and fermented at the distillery before double pot-distillation and aging in specially made small (3 gallon) American oak casks.
Remember, there is no minimum age requirement for bourbon (only 'straight' bourbon must be aged for a minimum of two years), so don't allow the fact the label says "Aged under 4 years in American Oak" mislead you into thinking this is a 4-year-old whiskey. However, Tuthilltown's signature small new oak casks impart their flavour much quicker and quite differently to regular-size barrels.
Each hand-filled and numbered apothecary-style bottle is finished with a natural cork stopper and a burgundy coloured wax seal which must be cut with a knife to open. Bottled without chill-filtration.
