First bottled in 1997, Cutthroat Porter is based on two-row Pale malt with Crystal and Chocolate malts and a small amount of roasted barley, this American porter uses English hops - Fuggle and East Kent Golding and boasts an IBU of 43.

Originally brewed in 1993 for the Mountain Tap Tavern in Fort Collins at the request of its owner, beer writer Jim Parker, who also came up with the name which honours Colorado's official state fish.

Appearance:

Clear, but so dark black that practically opaque, with thin beige head leaving heavy lacing.

Aroma:

Roasted malt, instant coffee and dark chocolate with slight dungy aroma.

Taste:

Earthy, heavily roasted malt with bitter chocolate, over extracted espresso coffee, caramel and charcoal/coal dust.

Aftertaste:

Lingering smokiness on a dry, charcoal finish.
