The Quintessential Dry Gin was Made by G & J Greenall (see Greenall’s Original), Quintessential was originally launched in North America before being launched in Europe. As the name might suggest (quintets and all that), Quintessential was distilled five times.

The first three distillations produced the neutral grain alcohol base. This was then distilled in a pot still with one recipe of botanicals, and the resulting flavoured spirit distilled again with a second, different botanical recipe. Neatly enough Quintessential also used five botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica, cubeb berries and lime oil.

It was originally named ‘Daresbury’s Quintessential’ in honour of Lord Daresbury, chairman of the distiller and a direct descendant of the Greenall family.
