This second release of the 1975 Vintage of Balblair Highland single malt is a very different style from the original ‘75 which was aged in Spanish oak ex-sherry casks, while this second release was aged in American oak ex-sherry casks. Non-chill-filtered and bottled without caramel colouring.
Sampled on 21/07/2012
Clear, mid golden yellow. (Clouds with water.)
Soft, mellifluous vanilla custard, chamois leather and crème anglaise with toast and cracked black pepper.
Initially sweet, surprisingly spicy after such a meek vanilla nose but beyond the thin ranks of ninja cinnamon spice you’ll find vanilla, fudge and coconut with light zesty citrus.
Creamy vanilla (think ice-creamy) and light peppery spice.
