Made by steeping damson plums in Plymouth Gin and then sweetening the result with a little sugar and reduced to bottling strength with Dartmoor water. The damson is a small purple fruit with yellow flesh and, like the sloe berry, is a member of the Prunus family.

Plymouth sourced the majority of damsons they require from trees in Cumbria and the Vale of Evesham.

Sadly Pylmouth Damson Gin was discontinued in 2010, partly due to lack of demand and also because the name Damson Gin in no longer aloud – ‘sloe’ is the only fruit with sufficient historical reference to be allowed to termed a gin and not a mere liqueur.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 18/11/2009

Taste:

Mellow with a ripe rich damson flavour, hints of cherry jam, blackcurrant and citrus and cloves.
