Schlösser Alt comes from Düsseldorf out of Germany’s largest alt beer brewery. Alt, meaning old, is a reference to the traditional brewing methods of using top fermenting yeast rather than lager yeast.
In 1516 the Reinheitsgebot purity law stopped most Bavarian brewers from all year round production but the Rhineland region, where this beer is from, was cold enough to ignore this law and develop alt beer.
Sampled on 15/10/2012
