To quote the brewers, “One of our earliest recipes, we wanted to push this big IPA all the way. So we packed it full of rye and dry hopped it for days with juicy American hops, using old pool balls to weigh the hop sack down in the beer. Hence the name.”
Brewed with Best Pale, Rye, Crystal Rye, Caragold, Caramalt and Low Colour Crystal malts, along with Colombus, Citra, Galaxy, Vic Secret and Pacific Jade hops.
Bevertown 8-Ball is bottle conditioned so should be stored upright and poured slowly to leave yeast sediment in the bottle.
IBU: 65
Sampled on 11/04/2016
(sample best before 20/Jul/16) Cloudy, orange-brown (mud-like) with thin but reasonably retentive beige head leaving thick spotted lacing.
Pronounced pink grapefruit zesty hops, caramel, currant bun and brown bread with fresh ripe mango and pine resin.
Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Rye bread malt overlaid with assertive piney, citrusy and grassy hops. Some delicate floral notes.
Lingering rye bready notes with accompanying pine and citrus hop bitterness.
Brown bready malts hold their own against a powerful hop collation in this well-balanced, unusual IPA with assertive but not domineering hops.
