This floral liqueur is named after the month during which the flowers that flavour it blossom on the vines. These include Ugni Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Folle Blanche and Sauvignon Blanc, the blossoms of which are hand-picked in Cognac, France during their short flowering period in June.

The petals are separately macerated in vats of neutral grape alcohol to extract their floral essences and then each infusion is distilled in a small Florentine pot still, the same kind of still used by perfume makers. These various petal distillates are then blended and a little sugar added to make L'Esprit de June.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 22/01/2016

Appearance:

Clear, transparent.

Aroma:

Pungent, peachy lychee fruit and rose blossom-like floral notes with cherry, strawberry and violet.

Taste:

Sweet and intensely flavoured yet delicate with orange blossom, rose water and peach.

Aftertaste:

Floral rose, strawberry and lychee continue through the long finish.

Overall:

Made from wine grape blossom, this floral liqueur has distinct peach and lychee notes. Perhaps a product to sip over ice but a useful cocktail ingredient.
