Sears “Cutting Edge Gin”

Difford's Guide

alc./vol: 44%

Proof: 88°

Vintage: Non-vintage

Aged: Unaged

The ‘Cutting Edge’ in the name has a literal meaning. The producers use fresh botanicals which are cut with razor sharp knives which they say maintains the cell structure of the plants “so the flavour in the final distillation process can be optimally revealed.” We are cynical to say the least.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 08/07/2013

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Juniper forward with coriander and angelica root. Strong notes of freshly cut celery (perhaps angelica seed) and floral notes of parma violet.

Taste:

Initial slight sweetness quickly gives way to juniper and earthy spice but slight syrupy mouthfeel remains with bergamot and a flavour reminiscent of cooked and sweetened lime peel.

Aftertaste:

Lime zest lingers with piney juniper and slightly hot cracked black pepper spice.
