Mr Trotter is the brainchild and collective alter ego of food writers Matthew Fort and Tom Parker-Bowles with beer marketing man Rupert Ponsonby. As the name suggests this English ale is brewed with sweet chestnuts by Lancaster Brewery Ltd and is claimed to be the only chestnut beer brewed in the UK
Mr Trotter’s Great British Chestnut Ale uses malted Maris Otter barley and Rupert Ponsonby says, “The chestnuts give a nutty creaminess to the brew and a honeyed note, which balances the spiciness of the English-grown Cascade and Bramling Cross hops.”
Launched late in August 2013, this Chestnut Ale extends the range of Mr Trotter’s branded products, originally established by Matthew Fort, Tom Parker-Bowles, Rupert Ponsonby and crackling specialist Graham Jebb for their Great British Pork Crackling in November 2011.
Sampled on 28/10/2013
(sample best before end Dec-14) Clear, deep coppery amber with lasting off white head leaving spotted lacing.
Bready – sourdough with aromatic hops, melon skin and pickled walnuts.
Earthy wholemeal bread with roasted nuts and fairly muscular bittering hops.
Lingering gentle bitter hops with notes of lavender.
