Carolans (without apostrophe) is made with fresh Irish cream, honey, "fine Irish spirits and Irish whiskey".

Launched back in 1978, Carolans is the second biggest brand of Irish cream liqueur (only behind Baileys). It is also available in a light version (with half the fat and one-third fewer calories) and a coffee cream version (launched in 1994).

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 27/06/2024

Appearance:

Opaque milky wet-sand brown.

Aroma:

Creamy/milky and biscuity with vanilla fudge and whiskey.

Taste:

Creamy (in texture and flavour) with toffee, vanilla, honey and just enough whiskey.

Aftertaste:

Reminiscent of toffee and vanilla ice-cream, laced with a splash of whiskey.

Overall:

It is a touch creamier in flavour than the brand leader, with attractive vanilla fudge/toffee notes and more delicate chocolate and coffee.
