Launched in 1846, ‘Red’ is sweeter and more alcoholic than the original ‘Classic’ (15% alc./vol.) Amaro D’udine created by Antonio Colutta in 1912. It is designed to be served over ice as an aperitif or digestive, in cocktails or with orange juice.
Sampled on 01/06/2014
Clear, tawny brown with deep coppery glints.
There’s a whiff reminiscent of swimming pool changing rooms with crushed mint leaves, sultanas, currants, orange juice and cloves.
Strong gentian and liquorice sticks with accompanying bitterness. Faint honeyed supporting sweetness with crushed mint leaf.
Long, bitter liquorice and gentian finish.
