Pickering’s gin is based on a handwritten recipe dated 17 July 1947 which has been “fine-tuned” using nine botanicals (juniper, coriander, cardamom, angelica, fennel, anise, lemon, lime and cloves) and distilled with neural wheat spirit in a 500 litre copper, bain marie heated, still named Gert.
Sampled on 06/09/2014
(sample small batch No.9) Crystal clear.
Coriander and piney juniper with light lemony citrus.
Earthy and dry, juniper forward with generous pine freshness. Other botanicals are well integrated with notes of lemon zest, sage, almond and mild black pepper spice.
Dry, piney and spicy finish with faint notes of fennel and clove emerging. A traditionally styled gin – delightfully so.
