This bottle conditioned ale is brewed in London’s Bermondsey to mimic a style of beer produced in the 19th century when barley was dried over open fires. Being bottle conditioned you should store upright and pour gently to leave the yeast sediment in the bottle.

Sampled on 10/10/2016

Appearance:

(sample bottle BB 06/Mar/17) Hazy, deep mahogany brown with thin but retentive beige head.

Aroma:

Smoky bacon, brown sugar and caramel with coffee and chocolate.

Taste:

Heavily toasted/slightly charred malt with hazelnut, slight liquorice sweetness, barbeque smoke and tar.

Aftertaste:

Bitter smoky bacon, brown bread, toasted nuts and charcoal.

Overall:

"Smoked and brown" aptly describes this characterful dark ale with notes of smoky bacon, bread, nuts, charcoal, liquorice and mocha coffee.
